Geophysical Exploration
Owing to their extraordinary sensitivity, small
size. enormous bandwidth and flat frequency response, dc SQUID sensors
are attractive for use in numerous geophysical exploration techniques,
including bore hole depth profiling,
airborne surveying,
transient electromagnetics (TEM), magnetotellurics
(MT), and controlled source audio
magnetotellurics (CSAMT).
Researchers at CSIRO Telecommunications and Industrial
Physics Division in Australia are using pcSQUID™, STARCryo’s advanced
PC-based SQUID electronics, and HTS dc SQUIDs fabricated at CSIRO to
develop ultra-sensitive vector magnetometer sondes for airborne surveying
and in SPINMAG,
a rock magnetometer offered by CSIRO for rock magnetization measurements.
